vcf lab salt lifecycle

Post-Deployment: Lab Features

Lab-specific configuration: root SSH access on SDDC Manager and adding a secondary vSphere cluster as a lifecycle deployment target.

These are personal lab configurations. Not appropriate outside a controlled lab environment — use with caution.

Enable Root Access on SDDC Manager

Uses the Salt state vcf.sddc-root which runs govc guest.run to enable PermitRootLogin and restart SSH inside the SDDC Manager VM.

See the Salt guide for full setup and execution instructions.

Enable Secondary vSphere Cluster as Lifecycle Destination

Adding the cluster managed by vcw.pgnet.io frees up resources on the VCF domain for workloads — logs and network operations can be deployed there instead.

  1. Ops → Fleet Management → Lifecycle → Settings → Deployment Targets
  2. Add Deployment Target
  3. Point to vcw.pgnet.io and authenticate
  4. Validate connectivity and register

Once registered, the SDDC Manager lifecycle engine will offer this cluster as a deployment destination for operations appliances.
